Five Songs for Five Feelings

We all have emotions. Regardless of whether we want to or not, our body feels in reaction to what happens around us or inside our heads. Often, at inconvenient times, times where you might not want to cry, laugh or jump up and down with joy, because it isn't the right situation.

I find music is always a wonderful way to channel all of these emotions into the right situation. Get out your sadness by listening to sad songs on the bus and pretending you are in a music video. Throw on a happy song while cleaning your room and find yourself pausing for a dance break. Scream to a song about anger and pretend like you're screaming at someone who pissed you off.

That's the power of music. It makes us feel. Without further ado, I present you;

Five Songs for Five Feelings.

Maybe I don't know - Jon Bellion

Maybe I don't know deals with the feeling of not being in control. It talks about how life often takes its course regardless of our actions. "Maybe I don't know" is an uplifting number to reassure you that your lack of knowledge isn't detrimental. Though it has references to God, I find, even as an agnostic, it still resonates with me. We all have times in our life (sometimes more often than not) where we think "Maybe I don't know" and Jon clearly says over and over again; maybe that's okay.

6/10 - Dodie Clarke

This song is for when you're feeling, you guessed it; like a 6/10. If you ever need a good cry, this is the song to cry to. It deals with the idea of constantly being inside your own head, worrying about how you're making other people feel to the point where you feel like you should just leave the room altogether. I think this can be quite relatable, especially in a society that glorifies happiness and expects sadness to be such a private feeling. Sometimes we feel sad in a crowded room, and this song perfectly describes that.

My Life - Billy Joel

An oldie, but a goodie. "My Life" is a big fuck you to all of the people trying to tell you what to do. If you ever feel like yelling at friends or family for trying to tell you what's the right or wrong thing for you; refrain from yelling, listen to this instead. The biggest message I got from this song was nobody else can decide if you still belong. It's your life!

7 rings - Ariana Grande

One feeling comes to mind with this absolute banger: Empowered. If this song doesn't make you feel like you own the world, I don't know what will! No matter what mood I'm in, this song is an escapism to a place where I'm on top of everything and there's nothing the world can throw at me that I can't throw back. Basically, if you want to feel like Ariana Grande, this is the one for you.

Come on Eileen - Dexys Midnight Runners

Do I even need to tell you? PURE JOY. That is what this song brings. An eternal party hit, this immediately brings me back to gaffers with friends, 21st birthdays, parties where I knew nobody, but we all knew Eileen. Try not to smile listening to this one, I dare you.
